So why did I buy a snorkel ?

Looks a bit like what I found in my air filter box the other day. Time for a snorkel?

Chucked in a K&N for good measure, she whistles and sings down the snorkel now....music to my ears
Oh, and she runs quicker and smoother. Hmmm Nice.
Mace:
Having driven her around for a week with the K&N fitted, I can positively say she's really smooth running now. The mud on the old filter was obviously starving the engine of enough air. She was running quite rough before and the new K&N has really reduced the 'knock' and vibration from the diesel engine. I thought it would have had an effect on performance but not on noise and vibration, you live and learn. Check your filters are clean !!
Budgie:
Good to hear it Mace, and all you have to do now is wash & re-oil the filter on the odd occasion.
Have you got the intake on the snorkle facing forwards or backwards?
If you have it facing forwards then it acts like an air ram, forcing more air into the engine. The Safari snorkles are better than the Mantec's for this as they have a larger intake but it should work on both. :D

I chose the Mantec one, so I'll try and avoid 'which is best' arguements but, the Mantec one doesn't fit the otherway round. The top has to point backwards. The upright tube of the snorkel is raked at the same angle as the windscreen so if you put the top on the otherway round it'll point up in the air and not forward. It has been mentioned before that with a Safari one, the rain pours in when facing forward, that said I think they've changed the top now and given it drain holes. I maybe wrong.
