good luck boss

but i do have to agree you should have known that you wernt ment to be driving it,

i have towed a trailer that was over the weight limit, but i didnt know i was over the weight until i finished on the weigh bridge and had unloaded my goods,

but in the case of a truck that is obviously over your limit then you should have told your boss / whom ever told you to drive it to get someone else to take it as your licence doesnt allow,

i was asked to take a 4 ton tipper truck to an MOT and told my boss i wasnt allowed someone else would have to do it, and he questioned why, untill i showed him my licence

And if they told you to go and jump in front  of a speeding train would you have done that as well??

Its this attitude of finding some one else to blame for your own wrong doing thats screwing this country up!!!

IGNORANCE IS NO DEFENCE
and as for 'I dropped a gear and nothing happened' erm its a truck - not a Porsche - hence why I have a class C on my licence - that I paid for..I take it you had a tacho inserted too? if so then that has your name on it - and therefore - you're up the creek with out a paddle! And if you hadnt got one in then the same still apllies- even more so!
I personally hope that the law drops on you - and your boss - like a ton of bricks - Irresponsible isnt a word i'd use, i would have chosen something a lot harsher..but as its a family forum it'll have to do...
If yuo were not familier with the vehicle then caution should prevail and as for driving not in accordance with the conditions of your licence - well thats points and a large fine on its own - and depending on when you passed your test - possible a ban and a retest.

No offence, pal, but you should lose your licence, and your employer should have their O licence revoked. You were driving a vehicle for which you are not licenced, you obviously were driving it without the compulsory tachograph and to top it of, you were using ancilliary equipment (the HIAB) for which I assume you have no ticket.

Both you and your employer deserve a good lesson. I admit that the one who should receive the harshest lesson is your employer, for they are responsible to make sure everyone driving one of their vehicles is legally allowed to do so, but you are a grown man, and should have refused to drive the vehicle, full stop.

If they take that cavalier an approach to driving, it makes me wonder what condition their vehicles are in (maintenance and inspections alike)

chrisland:
seems to me you've been a numty.
