the hamster we have now waits until about 2am (on purpose i think) then proceeds to throw stuff round its cage and rattle the bars :shock: from the noise you would think the house is being broken into

From personal experience (a long time ago):

Do not buy a metal cage, or rather one with a metal base. See, hamsters tend to pee in the same place. Over time, this will create a rusty hole. You will not notice the hole (or consider it big enough to be a problem) until you find that your hamster is no longer in his cage.

Mine was eventually found chewing through a box of paper after we took most of the room apart!  :lol:
