from what i remember of hamsters is that they stay awake all night spinning around in their wheel between sessions of chewing the cage bars.

I'm amazed that nobody has come up with a way of using hamster wheels to charge batteries. It's hardly cruel so long as the hamster is free to stop and get out of the wheel when it gets tired.

battery charging system with a weee capacitor to belt out an occasion zap to get that extra bit of ooomph during peak demand.
