I will tell you that we are working our round objects off to make this happen. I started 4 months ago and have worked 6 and 7 day weeks since then, almost every week.

The atmosphere in the various offices seems to be one of 'lets get this done, and done right'. No-one there thinks we can't do it, and the push to make it happen is incredible. The amount of work involved is absolutely immense. You have NO idea of whats involved.

The stadium's already going up, as is the aquatics centre, the village, the infrastructure, Weymouth, etc.

Honestly, if i was on the outside, i'd doubt their ability to pull it off. I am the first to wee on the British 'work ethic' (i'm hoping that Chicago gets the next one so i can go 'home') But i'm here and i'm convinced.

As long as it doesnt turn into another  A)- Milleninum dome or B)- Wembley type fiasco.
This country should be great at the hurdles and gymnastics - anyone whos ever tried to get something of th government knows exactly how many hurdles we have in our way and how many hoops we have to jump though!
and we have plenty of  RED tape - so maybe they should use that instead of the typical white :x

2012 is very aware of the mistakes made before (from what i've seen), and hopefully have learned from it and won't repeat it. A huge part of what they're (we're?) doing is to plan ahead for whats going to happen afterward (the 'Legacy' part of 2012 games)

BTW, both the Dome and Wembley are 2012 venues. Football (duh!) at Wembley. And Gymnastics/Basketball at the dome (it'll be called 'North Greenwich Arena 1')

BTW, If anyone wants to see whats going on, there is an open weekend the 20/21st Sept:

Surely Weymouth is already built ?!  I could have sworn I saw it last time I was over that way :?

I'm really not sure what I think of it to be honest with you,  there is a spark of pride involved, even if I think the opening ceremony will be three people touring round the half built stadium handing out asbos, but there's £9billion being pumped into infrastructure and buildings which aren't (to my knowledge) going to get a lot of use outside of the games.  Granted, they're using the millenium dome, which is a nice touch since the only thing which the vast majority of britain has gained from it's construction is seeing it on the opening shots of eastenders.

Oh well,  time will tell ...

I do like the "we're getting everyone in the country involved, so we'll have an open day where everyone in the country can pop in and see how great it is, we'll hold it in central london which is easy to get to wherever you live",  there (currently) doesn't seem to be much of an effort to make the games appeal to anyone outside of London.   The Bejing Olympics were "the chinese olympics" primarily, they just happened to be in Bejing and a number of other supporting cities.   From the way it's being portrayed at present, you get the impression that it's the London olympics, hosted by London I don't feel that anyone outside of the m25 has much of a personal investment,  although, maybe that's just me.

Nope, they're not. Several of the venues, including Woolwich Barracks and Greenwich Park are looking at being scrapped because of cost, size (too small), logistics and Legacy issues. Basically it looks like they're veering away from temporary sites.
