I just replaced the injector loom in mine - you take the rocker cover off, and it's all so easy..........until you come to put the rocker cover back on, the thick rubber gasket is a pig to get to sit in place - right at the back, there's a big bit of rubber that seals a big 'open hole' in the head casting - mine has been leaking oil from here for some time, the little sound-deadening panel that bolts to the back of the head (and is virtually impossible to remove) is quite soaked in oil...........this may be where the oil is coming from on the ones you've looked at - the gasket is about a tenner, you just need patience to replace it !

What can I say but thanks guy's for all your help :P :P :PHad a look at a X plate TD5 today in the pooring rain  but from the looks of the gear stick & steering wheel it must have been a high miler, 4 almost bald tyres & quiet a bit of rot above the windscreen, back door hinges did'nt look that good & they wanted 7K for it :roll:shame really as it had all the toys :'(

Funnily enough I just replaced the cam cover gasket on my TD5 Defender. 105k miles, year 2000. It was leaking a little. The rubber gasket was noticeably harder than the new one.. I guess they harden with age and start to leak a little.. Same place as yours Sweety, at the cast hole at the back and a little on the right hand side.

--- Quote from: Jimbo on July 03, 2008, 19:33:08 ---I had a W plate - and that did not have difflock, but it did have the all-important 'spigot' on the top of the transfer case, which meant that I could have fitted one of the after-market kits to enable me to use the difflock - but, I never really found a need for it, the traction control got me out of most problems............all other 'situations' required a tow

I was wondering if anyone had a pic of this Spigot or a link to a pic so I know what to look out for as I'd like to have the option to fit CDL if I felt I needed it or when funds allow :D

boss:
i dont think you can see it.
there is a date where they took it off(probibly mentioned above) but if you are to buy one that would be one of the first things to do! you thought about tyres?
