X-brake - annoying noise
Landy Andy:
i found that the noise was caused by the pads, and then transferred up the cable, cable tied cable and that helped, but at 70-75mph the noise is bloody annoying, and not good as am going on a 3 thousand mile trip and this is they only noise i haven't cured.

Saffy:
I am not so anxious about that noise now that I know what it is and not the gear box falling apart - rocker shaft coming loose - steering ball about fly off and other such things that wander though my head when driving with mystery noise.
Though I did have a quick feel of the 'fixed' pad and it seems to be still fixed in place
I grabbed the whole x brake caliper and it rocks ever so slightly on the caliper sliders - the pads then 'dings' quite loudly against the disc . I suspect this is exactly what is happening when moving. Design fault me thinks, not wear as this thing is less than 500 miles old!
Landy Andy:
Mine is also quite new, and i know the fixed pad is well and truly fixed but still get the noise, like you say "design fault".
I will be spending a few hours under my truck this weekend, and if i find a cure i will let you know.

burgerman:
seem a few of these ( mainly on comp vehicles) that have bent the plate, causing run out and uneven wear,distorted/overheated discs ect, i am not knocking the item as the ones i have seen have been mistreated and even a full bore launch with the handbrake still on
Just a idea if it has had a clout ???
Landy Andy:
Not had it long enough to see any action, being carefull at mo with trip planned.
