X-brake - annoying noise
Saffy:
In the truck I have had a horrendously annoying mystery rattle/ rapid creaking for awhile which comes and goes, has some relation to engine load/speed/vibration.
Finally figured it might have something to do with the handbrake as it goes away when gently easing up the lever when noise happens whilst whilst driving.
PTO version of X-brake fitted on 300tdi CSW (had to replace cable type). I thought it was the cable hitting bottom of seat box as there is a contact mark - so cable-tied it in such a way to pull it away from there but has had no effect of the noise.
I remember reading a website or forum about annoying noise from cable and x-brake but can't seem to find that now. Anyone had this? Looking for answers before pulling things apart.
Saffy:
DOH! just found the x-brake instructions mention a rattle - might be one of the pads needs sticking back in with silicone.
TDi90:
yeh. have a look under. it could also be one of the cables knocking on the PTO. - like what happend to mine. cable tie, or a bit of adjustment...
Landy Andy:
Hi ,
Yes i have the same rattle, was very bad but stripped it glued pads in, i didn't use silicon as is not heat resistant and disc gets warm (although can not un-a-just anymore), and silicon is not resistant to brake cleaner.
Noise is now better but not solved, and to be honest is really peeing me off, so if you find a cure let me know.

Defender:
I had the cable on mine rubbing on the underside of the seat box. I jammed a piece of high density foam between the cable & seat box & this solved this noise, but I've now got a new noise. I think it might be one of the pads coming loose. I'll have to strip it down & have a look.
