a bus is something for another time but on the to do list!!! Not sure I could face another theory test just yet!! :lol:

Not sure whether that was directed at me, if I removed enough seats (caravanette conversion), surely my licence would allow me to drive a converted coach as a minibus on a non-commercial basis (which I understand is the code restriction)?

Wireless:
OK checked DVLA;

I have category C+E with restriction 102, I can drive a motorhome up to 39 foot 4 inches in length, 8 foot 4 inches wide, and up to any height as there's no restriction (although a plate must be visible to the driver indicating a height above 9 foot 10 inches).  The vehicle can be over 7.5 tonnes MAM, there is no maximum weight restriction, and I can tow any drawbar trailer over 750kgs.

Looking at the other rules on the DVLA site; I can have up to 16 passengers, plus the driver, and since I have code 119 on D1+E, there's no restrictions on the MAM of the vehicle, width restrictions, length restrictions, etc, just take out 41 seats on the 57 seater coach.

So a Minibus and/or Motorhome?

Codes explained;

101 Not for hire or reward
102 Drawbar trailers only
107 Not more than 8250kg (C1+E only)
115 Organ donor (Eek!)
119 Weight limit does not apply

I'm now more confused than before, can anyone make top or tail of this?

Doesn't state I need a PCV, however, I lose some of these above entitlements if I don't carry on with the LGV after aged 45, so maybe I do need to take the damned medical after all.

BK:
Sorry mate,no it wasnt directed at you :D,i was on about muddy james,it all must have changed these days cos i always thought c+e was class 1 (artics) and as far as i was aware you can take your test in a 7.5 tonner pulling a drawbar trailer and that would get you your class 1 (daft idea really cos theres a massive difference between driving a 44 tonne artic and driving a tonka truck pulling a drawbar :D)so i dont really know but good luck anyway and watch them mirrors :lol:

Sider:
C+E IS the old class 1, but there were some cases where DVLA considered than some people with the old Class1 should be restricted to drawbars only. Bit daft if you ask me, since it is way more difficult to manouver a drawbar than a proper artic.

As for the test, more info in the link below, but in a nutshell, no, you cannot use a class3 with trailer.
