I keep a record of my fuel consumption (always have done). Since July 27th 2007 - when I bought the current 300Tdi auto Discovery ~ it's returned an average of 23mpg (best 26: worst 21). Most journeys are short (less than 2 miles) on a cold engine but the highest mileage is on long trips (50+miles) on a mixture of motorway and A road where I always try to keep within the speed limit.

My previous Discovery (1996 3.9 V8 manual) gave an average of 16/17 mpg on both petrol and LPG with the same journey mix.

1995 300Tdi manual Discovery averaged about 30mpg with mostly long journeys and very few short ones. Best it gave was 36mpg on a trip to the south of France and back. Coming back it was so loaded up I had to leave 2 bottles of wine out   [-X (there were three but I drank one the night before we headed home  )

1991 200Tdi manual Discovery averaged 35mpg on a right mish-mash of trips.

I've got a vx frontera with a isuzu 2.8tdi LWB ...and if i drive it properly (my right foot is made of lead) i can get 38-40mpg on a run
around the town ...only get low 30's

Lucy1978:
The series gets about 35mpg on a run with a 2.5di transit engine, was 39 before the new tyres.  The 101 gets about 10 though.

TechnoTurkey:
I get about 10mpg from my 110V8, but it's only ever short trips and never really gets on a long run these days.

I also manage over 50mpg from my BMW, which is why I have it!
