What MPG do you get?
Dr Strangeglove:
I was at a friends the other day as I am doing a bit of fabricating for him. During our many conversations we discussed how well his dad’s RRC was looking after its re-spray. It is fitted with a 2.8 Isuzu TD engine and I mentioned that I liked the sound of them due to reliability and fuel consumption. This is when he said that the mpg on them wasn’t great.
So – What MPG do you get from your vehicle. Try to be honest and don’t say yours will do 30 mpg if it will only do that travelling at a constant 55 mph. Or perhaps we should put what we get on average, what we get urban, what we get when we nurse them (55 mph and avoiding the breaks!) and finally the motorway 70 mph run.
If we get enough useful data it may be worth putting it onto a spreadsheet so we can all see the results.
I am going to stick with my 3.9 efi as I don’t do enough miles in it to warrant changing. But I just can’t help it – I like diesels!!
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Just one thing – can we keep to your mpg’s and avoid criticising other vehicles/engines as if we do that the useful information we get will be reduced!
Regards
Mick

On the way to Norway (summer 2007) in my 110 200tdi in July (with 5 adults in it, full load area, roof tent & rest of roof rack full I got 27.5mpg cruising at 65-70mph (same on return journey)...IIRC this was about a 450mile trip from home to Newcastle.
Normally I get anywhere from 21-28mpg...depending how I drive it...not far in it's present state
My 90 2.5NAD gives me about 25mpg...although I have never checked it
My VW Passat 1.9tdi (154bhp) gives me 54mpg cruising at 80mph
...guess what get used most
TDi90:
my landy gets me 30ish mpg on a run (200tdi)
my skoda gets me 60mpg cruising at 70 :P (its a 1.4TDi)

How do you work out MPG? I know how many miles I do on a tank of fuel and how much it costs.
I do know that I am getting double the mpg running on straight veg oil compared to diesel.

Thats like 55mpg when you are on veg oil then. it might only cost half as much to run but it wont do twice as much to the gallon.
