As to drawing a line on speed, this was not a case of constant high speed but accelerating hard deliberatly to look cool.

But i know what you mean.

Sadly in these situations there's plenty enough blame to go around, and not a single ounce of it makes it any better...

I just hope the child is OK and that the parents, driver and indeed anyone else who is even partly responsible is feeling just about as rough as you must be doing.

About the only innocent parties here are the two who appear to be hurt,  viz the child and the innocent bystander (yourself).  You have my sympathies.

Definately take the counselling if offered. Better still, ask for it. I'll echo what Niel said. PTSD is a git. I've played games with that particular 'black dog' for the last few years.
I hope the kid gets better, but again I wouldask why it was running into the road, not that I'm sticking up for the car driver. All residetial areas should be 20 mph zones with speed chicanes.

i hate it when i see flowers at the side of a road always gives me goose bumps and makes my hair stand up on my neck, just remember there is always some one to talk to x

20mph can do a lot of damage to a small child...admittedly more speed usually equals more injuries but where do you stop?
--- End quote ---

Simple, you drive at such a speed that you can stop in the distance you can see to be safe.

My driving instructor taught me that, I tell all my pupils, it hasn't changed.

Anything faster is unsafe, I don't care how you dress it up or what you call it, if you can't stop in time you're too fast.
