--- Quote from: "discorich" ---how come on the mach 5's? also in reference to the 90 front axle with the strong splines is that a 10 or a 24 spline?
--- End quote ---

it will be a 10 spline diff
diff wise, there identical strenght to 24 spline
10 spline shafts aint as strong as 24, but not much in it really
but the cv's are very strong
my cv's took a pounding with 35's, and even with a front locker for a time before replacing with unbreakable cv's

oh, mach 5's

they rip calipers off cos there two open ( with lockers fitted )
they bend like 1mm sheet steel
and the welds crack from time to time ( every other week  :P )
ok they look good
but mods are alot stronger

Horses for course really.

I took the 24 spline route and swapped in later 24 spline axles. The diffs are newer and less worn, the halfshafts are about (IIRC) 30% stronger. 24 splines HD V8 rear halfshafts are the strongest std LR item. That is what I run in an open diff 200TDi Disco.

All of this will be fine if you don't fit a front locker.

AEU2522 CVs and Ashcroft halfshaft into 24 splines diffs is the strongest non-locked front axle setup you can get with out going into stupid £££ :)

totaly agree andy
what tyre size and pattern you using ?
or intending on using ?
id stick a early defender axle under her
and wait for something to break before up-grading it to 24spline
but you've got to break it 1st

Range Rover Blues:
Personally I have locking 10 splines front and rear and a shed full of spare halfshafts, it's the cheapest option for me.

That said I don't bust halfshafts, I do wheelbearings

discorich:
I am planning on running a set of either 265/75R16 insa turbo special traks due to price or dependant on money maybe a set of 32/9.50R16 simex ET's (think that was the size). there is a lad in the club running a detorit 24 in the rear with ashcroft shafts and a true trak in the front with standard shafts and the stronger cv's this is a similar set up to what i am planning and he dosnt seem to have broken owt, he is also running the same tyres i am after.
i am planning on pickuping or tray backing my disco as it is too top heavy and too high for the tracks on the island due to low trees.
so with the rear it would be easy enough to get a 24 spline detroit and the uprated shafts and flanges i am thinking. front end is a bit more complicated but if i can get the 90 front axle that would be moderately easy it seems.
