CV's on a 1990 200tdi disco
discorich:
i have a 200tdi disco no ABS from 1990. i am running the 2 part CV's (female to female) i was wondering how decent (as in strong) these are and if they are rubbish how easy is it to upgrade then without going mad on prices and buying the kits from Ashcroft or Kam. any advice would be great cheers.
extreme90:
there not very strong at all
but very easy to change
you cannot buy a upgrade for this type of cv joint as far as i no, ashcroft certainly dont do them, nor do kam from what ive found in the past
best upgrade you can do is to get hold of a early 90 axle and fit that
strongest stock cv joints that solihul produced
there the AEU2522's for reference
u used to run them on my 90 for ages and only bust 1 on road deing a idiot
but due to having a front locker, i didnt fancy forgetting the front locker being in and breaking one
so now have ashcroft cv's with a heafty price tag

discorich:
would the brake calipers from the disco fit? as i run 5 line brakes and 90's were only 3 line i believe.
extreme90:
put a t piece in, like on the rear axle, that what most people do
Range Rover Blues:
I've tried the 200TDi defender axles and the problem is the alloys wouldn't fit the hubs and the CVs were too long.
Are the later Disco ABS type CVs any good? (also found in RRC) as these are a straightforeward swap.
If anyone wants the internals for the Defender axle I might be able to find all the parts I had, inc new bearings etc and they can be built up onto the existing axle/swivles.
