£400 road tax
Lucy1978:
I think you'll find it is proposed it will be based on emissions, so therefore it will only effect post 2001 cars as those registered before this don't have official emmisions data.
datalas:
the worry is what they do to the "everyone else" category, since it did go up last year (granted, by a fiver) but ...
rollazuki:
knock tax off everything
knock off all income tax
PUT VAT UP TO 40%!
That way the skiving thieveing tax dodging, dole whallas, and similar, will have have to smarten up, cos to buy owt will be considerably more expensive, and the earners among us will be in exactly the same position as we are now!!
datalas:
I once suggested that rather than giving job seekers allowance as cash you replace it with a card scheme which could be used to pay for things provided they were not subject to VAT (this only works at food stores), which means that Alcohol, Cakesl, Cigarettes etc would be unavailable, but theoretically things like meat, veg and bread would be ...
note remotely practical, but an entertaining mental exercise.
Range Rover Blues:
All it will mean for me is that I sell the Micra. I can't justify running an samll environmentally 'better' car that can't carry my dogs, pull my caravan or, quite frankly, survive the state of some tarmac roads in this authority.
So I'll be using the Range Rover more, but hell if I'm paying that much for road tax, I'll be getting my money's worth.
Don't worry too much though, 4x4 made up less than half of the cars penalised by the introduction of band G on road tax. All those politicialns won't be able to buy nice Merc convertibles for their wives/misstresses any more if they pay that much road tax.
Besides, everyone in the house of lords drives a Rolls don't they?
