Hrmmm... the TGV....

All over very quick (small power band), doesn't rev that well and you will quickley go through gearboxes....

Not actually a bad engine, but better for 'slogging' than being driven like you stole it   ...
Cheaper to buy from http://www.prinsmaasdijk.nl/landroverengine/index.html than anywhere in the UK... they are very helpful and speak good english.

Really depends what your after.

And with ones of these fitted it will NOT affect your road tax.... and older car over 1549cc pays the same price!!

--- Quote --- think that i'd rather do things thw correct way. I definatly prefer to know that once i've built it any parts i should need to replace in the likley event that i break something, i will be able to get off the shelf.

I like the sound of leaving my fuel tank were it is, will that create any problems if i was to use a new chassis?  It should'nt be too difficult to make new mounts should it as i'm keen on keeping my chassis cos its in good nik and i don't have alot of dosh to chuck at it!

I dont really want start messin with my exhaust down pipe cos its a nice ss one

I also like the sound of it being a fact that everything will fit, so Defender engine it is!!

Oh and i also meant to say thanks very much for all the help your giving me

Moving the fuel tank doesn't really effect anything.... apart from a underseat tank has a smaller capacity... and will probably have to run an aftermarket pump (although there is a way around this)

Your exhaust will have to be changed - the bore on a 200tdi is too small for a Td5 - so you will restrict performance (the front bit won't fit a TGV either).

Does it depend which version you go for as to whether you go through gearboxes? The variable turbo version has a max torque of 375 Nm, which is pretty close to the max torque of the 200tdi gearbox i think.
But the wastegate version has a max torque of 355Nm.

Tinks:
"Drive it like you stole it" thats definatly more me!

Want to build something not too sensible but still practical, if you see what i mean? :?

Never had any trouble with my fue tank being the size it is so i don't think i'm bothered about that!  Sounds like it would be easier to leave it were it is anyway?

Oooh don't want to restrict performance i'm not that attached to the exhaust pipe!

If you go for the none VNT version.... why bother??  Just fit a tweaked 300Tdi....

An R380  (Which it should really be mounted too) should, as it's name suggests, take 380Nm... however I think it probably the way the power is delivered that kills the gearboxes (and shortens the life of standard clutches).  Ashcrofts can build you an R380 that will take it (bases on TVR internals AFAIK) but it isn't cheap.

If you leave it where it is then you will have to play around with fuel pumps... but at least you can keep your existing rear tub.

That's if your planning on keeping your existing chassis.... if you go for a new Td5 one I'd fit the Td5 tank.

Then you've just got the choice of fitting the R380 gearbox and the Td5 in the standard factory position, or mounting the gearbox on the LT77 mounts - so keeping your seatbox, floors and props - or fitting a 300Tdi spec seat box and floor, and then either Td5 or 300Tdi Props.... and thus putting the engine in the correct postion.

In all honesty the conversion isn't as easy as say a 300Tdi.. but still very do-able.
