It's a fantastic sight isn't it? I've been up in the peaks and had a similar experience, it's just stunning sometimes :)
Drift:
A few years ago we kipped in the hut at the top of Cadir Idris Snowdownia .
When we got up at about 0530 the view was one of the best Ive ever seen and I been around :wink:
There was a themal inversion and it was like looking out of an airplane window and we watched the sun rising above the clouds.

Its been a few years since I been there, I even got my dog from the Gerwyn Lake hotel at the bottom of the mountain :wink:
And thats the Snowdon train in your avitar I suspect :wink:
