On top of the fog

I drove up to the Tan Hill Inn (the highest pub in England, about 20 miles away) yesterday to show a guest a little of the Dales. The fog got thicker and thicker the further I drove from home, the grass on the verges got more and more covered in frost as I drove higher into the moors, patches of ice began to appear on the road surface, then magically I came out above the fog into glorious sunshine with no frost, no ice.
If only I had taken the camera, the views were fantastic looking down onto a level sea of fog with the odd hill, island like, sticking up. I did take a couple with my phone but the quality is just not up to the job.

did a similar thing a few years back - delivered into Holmfirth, and decided to come back via the moors - had been in Fog all morning - but climbed up onto the top - by the bbc transmitter and blue sky and sunshine - but it was about minus 10 :shock: .. lovely and quiet too!!

Boxing Day a few years back we climbed Scafell Pike in the Lake District. Looking South we had a great view of the Snowdon massif over 100 miles away above the interviening sea of fog. The Isle of Man- which is much closer was hidden in cloud!

Where I live is notorious locally for it's fog coming off the lake. You only have to drive a couple of miles out and you are above the fog. It can be quite spectacular and you feel distanced from the real world.
Took these yesterday at 1.00 pm when the sun was burning through the fog. It was still -2C.
