Hi Clones and Kenlowes
drmike:
As always only my opinion but ...
If you were only getting 19 mpg from a TDI engine then either you were driving it very, very hard or there was something wrong with it.
I have had my 300 TDI Disco for 3 years now and it always works out at about 30 mpg unless I'm towing when it's probably closer to 25.
I'd guess the decent service contributed most of the improvements. Wre the tappets adjusted, all filters changed, sludge trap cleaned out?
What about tyres? I have just put some decent tyres on the back, the previous Wranglers had worn in the most ridiculous way and I reckon I've gained 2 mpg but to be fair that's included more motorway runs than is usual.
Personally I have always been very suspicious of Kenlowe's claims for 8-10% improvement in mpg. I guess it's theoretically possible but as I said before if it was that easy home come LR don't fit from new? They could certainly do with the better mpg for boosting sales green cred.

RRB - I ran a classic RR with a 3.5 on carbs with electric fans. These were two HUGE Fiat fans. To fit them you had to cut the end off the shaft that pokes out of the water pump rthat takes the viscous fan etc - you know the bit that pokes out from the water pump and has pulleys and stuff attached.
Most people cut and put a blob of weld on the end to hold it all on. I didn't fancy that and had a locel engineer make up a taper pin to hold things on and then he wired it up so there was no chance it could get loose. This meant that if I needed to I could take the bits off the shaft with no problems.
I still have the fans and modified water pump as I swapped the V8 and thought they'd be useful one day!
I now have 2 TDI engines.

Range Rover Blues:
LSE is a soft-dash with serpentine belt, oh and it's 5.0litres.
TBH the viscous is doing it's job so I'll try it again with the 'van on, of course the weather is now cooler
colintandy:
i use hiclone, kenlowe fan,k&n,uprated intercooler, sports exhaust system, molyslip in engine and gearbox and transfer box mixed with rockoil fully synthectic gear oil in diffs done loads mods to engine , :? but as soon as you put a roofrack on a 2 inch lift 235/85/16bfg mud terrains front winch and winch bumper rear uprated bumper full under body armour my mpg is good if i am and like a v8 when im not good ....when you get a landy of any shape or size i think you should not worry so much about mpg but worry if you make it in the first place....
Cheggs:
Well the truth of the matter is no becoming clear , it appears the change of use was the main reason, cause now swmbo is back at the helm I'm back at just over 21mpg so a improvement of about 7%, not that I'm to worried she is paying for the fuel now
