an LGV is an HGV they just changed the name a while back, dont you have to do a rigid test first then you can progress to an artic after 6 months? when i did mine just did a weeks course for an artic straight away, that was a while back though

--- Quote from: "Red Defender" ---its easy - although you have to take a theory test for it ! before you start the 5 day course (they say 5 days but its usssually 5 half days with the fest on the last day. the down side i found was you get put on a probationary license (six points and your out - and you have to take all tests again - inc car !!!)
--- End quote ---
Probation????? Never heard of that mate. I got probation for my car (B) licence, but never for my HGV (C) licence. And I took it in May 2004. Oh, and it was a 2 1/2 day course (sat and sun all day, mon morning practice, mon 1400 test, tuesday went to an agency, wednesday I was driving for Bussinesspost).
You can take you artic the moment you get your licence back with the entitlement. When you obtain your C (rigid licence) they automatically give you the C+E (artic), no theory to pass, just the driving.
The driving test is not difficult per se, it is easy to fail, but as long as you show to them you are a safe driver (and avoid hitting a kerb, or worse, an OAP :D) you'll be alright.
