Its like a program on grumpy old men!!! :lol:
When I was little my mum rang a few people and then sent us on our way to the old folk in the village. They loved us turning up and the best bit was a lady called Mrs Wynn who cooked us fresh pumkin pie. It was great, all harmless and all in good taste :D

As far as kids go with trick or treating, I just give them a big bag of sweets and a business card :(kerching):

Must be nice to live where you live. Round here the trick is likely to be a brick through your window or a firework through you letter box.
OAPs sit in the dark all night and dont answer the door. It is not unknown for the trick or treaters to play the trick even after they get the treat.
