Don't forget... a byway is a road like any other... so your insurance would be the main issue I'd guess
Jake:
Bush wires are ONLY legal to be left on Camel Trophy vehicles.
nothing else.
I enquired with the Police before i was going to fit them to my car.
Was told that i could be nicked!
Camels are historic vehicles and are allowed to be keeped and run in the state that they competed.
Sorry

yer auld aunt nelly:
right thats more like it,But still the issue remains what about exterior stowage and such i mean could you be stopped by a over zealous pc for a high lift jack for instance?I mean, the bush tie issue aside what can and can not be allowed for stowage.I had all sorts on the out side of my 88 an it was never mentioned by various m.o.t,s for instance.Or for that matter was ever a issue with the local rossers and lord knows we have enough of the eager for there first nick round here.
Wanderer:
You'd more than likely be stopped because it is insecure or a danger to pedestrians, which is why mascots were "banned".

Bulli:
Dont know that they would be of major benefit when offroading in the Uk. As a daily commuter on my bike i would rather not test out the relative strength of steel wire in the unfortunate event i hit someone.
The only major RTA i have had i hit a vectra side on,it pulled out form a STOP signed junction, i was only doing 35ish on my gixer 1100. The only thing i can really tell you is that i cleared it comfortably. The roof is chest high side on!! He didnt stop and the only witness said i got a good 15 feet in the air! I can only guess he'd been drinking.
On a side note one of my collegues is a hobby bobby and loves to quote crap. He told me, i have no reason to disbelieve him, that if the officer is so inclined he could happily nick you for having tools in you landrover- let alone on it. He went on to explain that if he didnt like your face he could hold you on suspision of going equipped...in other words accusing you of being a burglar or worse.
The moral , always be nice to the police if they take an inetrest in you.
