I dont have so much of a problem but some kind of side bins could be an option, on a 3 door side pouches in the rear panels by the back seats

That's the ones. I pinched the idea off of Paul. They are built like a brick outhouse and can be padlocked. Easy enough to make sure they don't become a projectile as well.
Bit of matting and away you go. Dog bed on top.
