cancel that idea then! im thinking leaf springs are they way forward anyway...sticking with the montego lump, overdrive and free wheeling hubs..keeps the price of the build down which is the main sticking point

It's actually build date, not registration date that they go on - mine was built in 1966, but not registered until 1974 (Ex MOD) so is Tax Exempt on a 'P' plate. There's quite a few of them around so worth checking with Gaydon.

I do like the sound of that! However im not sure which direction to go in..Ive got them both home and had a much better look..the series 2 chassis is shot to pieces but it is tax exempt has an over drive and free wheeling hubs. The series 3 has a pretty solid chassis, the diesel lump and the truck cab which I prefer and a nice ifor williams rear cover..
The mrs has fallen in love with series 2 and has suggested I rebuild both! bless her! Im thinking strip both down rebuild the series 2 using the solid chassis a td lump, over drive and the free wheeling hubs.. The series 3 using a galvanised chassis ive just been told about, either parabolics or coils, a tdi lump and rangie axles.

Just a couple of things to remember - the S2 chassis will have slight differences to the S3 chassis, and technically the ID of the vehicle is carried by the chassis. If you use the old S3 chassis then you 'should' keep the S3 ID and reg. However, if the chassis number is no longer visible 'who's to know' :)
