would a 2.5td from a 90 fit into a series 2 or 2a?

hi,
    as it says on the lid..would it fit? ive found a series 2 and a 2a in a farmers hedge round the corner from me, both are fitted with the 2.25 petrol (so ive been told) and as ive got a 2.5td sat in the yard i was thinking i could well be on my way to a cheap play toy...

yepp, will fit without too much hassle as block castings are almost identical.

Yes it will easily fit, I had a 2.5td in mine but removed it. Lack of power. Ive fitted the 200tdi instead and have just helped my mate fit the 300tdi in his series 3. Using all the series running gear.

how do the gearboxes get on with the tdi's i would have thought they would be too weak for the all the torque???

All works fine, common sense really. If you drive normal, off road and on. Half shafts will brake if you do alot of wheel spinning on tarmac in four wheel drive.
