have i blown a diff ???

Providing the prop u/js are ok you should be able to turn the front prop a bit, a 1/4 turn sounds about right.
Replace the wheel bearings (including the outer race)

I would use a decent make of wheel bearing chris. I think its timken that are decent ;)

is ther a certain type of bearing ? reason i ask is that it says all about diff chassis numbers and stuff  ???

i am going to do both front bearing but when i am looking to order them it say about chassis number on the site it says up to      JA032850    and JA032850

on my disco the number is JA030313 

which 1 do i get ???

if its a 300tdi it is worth checking the rear prop donut, when my first one went it started making the noise when slowing down
