pretty sure the splines changed from the 300tdi defender models onwards. Previous models are interchangeable

Disco-Ron:
I have never yet failked to get a wheel of any car by putting my knees tight up on the underneath, and then, with the nut still on the shaft enough to not leave the threaded part of the sdhaft showing, give it a decent whack with a hammer..... squarely of course, cos you don;t wanna damage the thread or not etc............. don;t do it with no nut, if it comes off, you could well be wearing the wheel!!

Saffy:
I used cheap 3 leg pulley other day (haliford laser range) to get a mountney wheel off

MudRat:
rubber mallet, never fails and never damages the wheel!

william127:
for a defender i loosen the nut but leave it on the shaft, grip the  wheel near the boss, tighten my arms and stand up straight, wheel slides straight up as you stand.
