I want to buy a TD5
brianb:
Thanks for the offer but I fancy a diesel....don't think i could afford the running costs of a V8  Mind you a V8 is a REAL mans toy  Then again the wife would kill me
mark-d:
i dont think milege is to much of an issue with td5's so long they are seviced regulary
brianb:
I GOT ONE
Thanks to as who responded. I ended up getting one localish a 2000 Discovery 2 td5 XS manual, I really wanted an autoimatic but this one was in very good condition and not many beer tokens
So leaves me with a few quid to do whatever mods may need doing.
Im going to give it a month or so to see how it handles before i decide what goodies to add. The tyres are very chunky, so i may be ok with them, cant remember make or size as i was checking soo many things im sure i missed a load of stuff.
Im off to Pea Farm on the weekend to try it out on the muddy stuff so will give a bit feedback then.
One questio i do have is concerning the Axle breathers.....what are they like of the discovery 2? I am concerned about getting water in my diffs and gear/transfer box etc so do breathers need doing as a matter of urgency on the disco 2 or are they already done?
Thanks all
mark-d:
good stuff you dont hang about, looking forward to the pics you gonna post of it :D
disco2 td5:
ive got a disco 2 the only breather thats a bit too low is the rear axle one i think its near the fuel filter near the right rear drives side wheel all the rest are quite high up in the engine bay prob about the height of the air intake
the other good thing to do is seal up the splits on the factory door seals with some black silicone keep the water out from inside
the next thing is the front bumper is too bloody low and always catches stuff off road and if you do happen to get it wrong they do smash into alot of bits and you will need a brush and shovel to sweep the bloody thing up (speaking from experance now mine looks well mean with only a trimed down bit of the metal bar that the bumper mounts to)
