Replacing my wheels
andyn1983:
Hi,
Really hope someone can help here. I've been searching the various landrover and freelander forums and can't really find a conclusive answer. There seem to be some really switched on peeps here so thought I would ask....
I'm running a Freelander TD4 Kalahri 53 plate (1st model). Its got 225/55/17 wheels as standard. I'm looking at changing the wheels to either a 15" or 16" rim and running a set of AT tyres.
So my question...
Is there a problem with changing the wheels to a smaller size?
What size wheels are other people running?
What AT tyres are other people running?
Sorry for such a newbie question, but changing anything from Factory standard is all very new to me!
Rockin Robin:
There's no problem with fitting smaller wheels. I run 16" alloys with 225/75/16 Grabber AT's, and I have a set of 15" steels shod with 215/80/15 Colway MT's (no longer available).
G30RGE:
I had/have a set of 17's for my TD4 with the 225/55's on
and a set of 16's with 205/16 shod with Falken AT I used about 3 times.
gives around an inch extra clearance
Now sat in workshop gathering dust and waiting for a good offer :D
DoubleTop:
I've got the same on the car, the 17" alloys with quite low profile. For 'off-road' days I've got four 15" steels that I picked from ebay for £20, that once I've done with the latest round of ebay cash will get some AT tyres put on them. Not decided on size yet, probably go for the same as George, a slight increase to give a bit better clearance. I'll be swapping back to the nice bling for standard use, just the steels for when going to pay and play days.

I was running these in 215/70 r16 Goodyear MTR's
Which are a good size and slightly bigger than the factory option of 215/65/16 for the bit extra GC
But these no shortage of choice from BFG's, General AT2's etc
