can any of the club's plob give me advise please

8 months ago we changed car for SWMBO and arranged for garage to swap over private reg plate.
As part of the deal they added 6 months tax
2 months ago as tax was due I tried to tax it online but it refused to take details, asking me to call DVLA
Next day I called and was informed the vehicle was not taxed for previous 6 months  :shock: and that I was liable for any associated costs.
The tax disc and change of registration was all done at a local DVLA office.
They took all details from 'old' tax disc informing me that they would investigate.
To date I have not heard from them.
