Rubbish parts......

--- Quote from: littlepow on December 29, 2008, 16:41:01 ---It's always worth paying an extra few pennies to get your parts from a good reliable source, doesn't always have to be from people that specialise in your vehicle. Thanks to the cheapness of BL, you will find a lot of the sparky side is used on many other vehicles.

But what you get these days, may not be the same as you used to get. Even if it's in a 'genuine' box. If you only get a 'pattern' part in a genuine box, why pay extra? As you know, I deal with these things every day and it is almost daily that I have to explain it to customers! Obviously, we have the advantage of being able to find the best product regardless of packaging. Often, the plain boxed items are better than the ones where you pay more for a branded box!
Unfortunately, as an individual, it is difficult to do this research before buying an item. I suppose that's where buying from a reputable dealer comes in. Hopefully, they will have done their homework and will supply the best option.

On dizzy caps you can tell one of three manufacturers form the tool marks. I found the LR dealer sold me a cap from the same tool as the Halrfrauds one which gave me all the trouble :?
Aparently they sell them to a TVR specialist because he is very fussy about the parts he uses.
they did sell me a genuine rotor arm shtough, just wish I could have afforded more than one but it cost the same as half a tank of fuel

I had a Commercial Ignition V8 rotor arm last less than 80 miles before it started arcing. The replacement lasted for 2 years until I sold the vehicle. And as far as I know he hasn't yet changed it. You can never tell whether an aftermaket part is going to be fine or not!
