wheel bearing lock up!
Disco-andy:
the first time I took my old 200 in to water the same happened the next day. Arr the memorys of doing my first wheel barring that was fun! I put it down to the breath being blocked (as it was) then the rapidly cooling axle sucking in , thus pulling water through the hub rather than the breather.
Good luck changing it hope it not to bad in there!
Les Henson:
A broken CV joint can jam the wheel. A badly worn wheel bearing will eventually break up - the inner race will friction weld itself to the stub axle, but the wheel will still turn. If the wheel bearing had broken up, then the wheel itself would be very wobbly/at an angle, whereas a broken CV joint only affects drive, so the wheel will appear ok still.
300TDi Disco CV joint - slightly worn :) - The bits jammed-up inside the swivel and locked the wheel.

marmite monster:
well me and les batty changed it today in the rain huummm fun! had a bit of trouble getting the old bearing of the shaft because they had spun a bit and slightly pitted it but some filing sorted that out and hopfully it will be ok.took about 2.5 hours :(
thanks jase and ned for helping 1 down 3 to go !:)
Range Rover Blues:
LR are designed for occoasional fording, any continued use and you should be striping the bearings and greasing them, plus changing the gearbox oils more regularly (the bearings should be done periodically like the gearbox).
It's another reason why I don't drive through anything deeper than I really have to.
marmite monster:
yeah but its fun though
