wheel bearing lock up!

(1/3) > >>

marmite monster:
was out bashing some fords today in the disco then all of a sudden the front right wheel sounded like it was full of gravel or somthing within 10miles of doing a 3ft ford the front wheel had locked solid and it was AA time!
will this happen alot when doing river crossings? or is it a case of it was all ready on the way out and i just finished it of with a load of pond water?

any tips on changing it?

Sounds like poor maintenance to me. LR are designed to go through water and under normal conditions water, etc shouldn't get into the axles/bearings.

Are your breathers extended, but more importantly, clear.....

Also, your hub seals could be perished and letting water through.

Sounds as if you'll have to check all your bearings/hubs/breathers to ensure that they are in tip-top condition.

Where about's are you as you haven't completed your details fully?

There not that hard to do, if you have the tools, etc.....

Hi si, give me a bell sure we can sort you, got everything in stock if your stuck for parts

Disco Matt:
This shouldn't happen - it sounds more like a hub seal that has perished than water being sucked back into the breather.

I have had it happen to me to only i happened to be doing 60mph (on motorway of course), i was lucky to get away with it!

I know lots of people who it has happened to, lots.

I dont think that you can ever really seal it fully however without any lies once you have spent a day pulling the four apart you can easily strip and grease 4 in 2 hours with very very few tools!

Timken bearings can be bought for cheap as well, i would change mine every 1 year.
