Hi / Low Gear Selector

<< < (2/3) > >>

boss:
to looka at it from in the car you have to take the centre console off then undo about 20 rivvets to the rubber gator....lot more work but you can see for sure that way

last resort maby?

bilge rat:
you may end up doing that anyway . there is a grub screw on the selector shaft that sits on top of the g/box they have been known to come loose and fall out . it doesnt fall into the box though simple enough to get at ...alan

Thanks boss,

If the getting under it doesn't work then I'll try this way.

Cheers

John

Thanks Bilge Rat,

looks like that might be the way to go then.

Do you know if I drill out the rivets to gain access will the swarf go into any thing it shouldn't.

I imagine it would be sealed but you never know!!

Cheers

John

You shouldn't have any issues drilling the rivets out, the rubber is just the seal between the inside and the outside of the car so to speak, the gearbox is below that. When you come to refit use some j clips and self tappers with washers - a lot easier if you ever have to go in that way again.
My money's on the grub screw on the selector, looks like a tunnel on top of the transfer box, under the passenger side, unbolt this and it will lift off and you can get to the selector, if it is the grub screw use some thread lock when you put it back together.
