Exhaust Modification
Dave:
I know that sooty has done his pipe out the rear panel "V8 disco"
HIPPO:
With the centre box removed it makes a deeper noise, performance wise it does give a bit more in midrange but not that much really. It does however get rid of that huge box from underneath. If you do remove it, it may be wise to fit a small bit of flexy pipe to allow for engine movement with out it straining the exhaust as fitted on 300 TDi's
HIPPO:
Has anyone or does anyone run a diesel disco without any silencers? if so how loud is it? I know that everyones version of loud is different, but does it get annoying on a long run, does it turn heads and does it really make a performance difference?
Also does anyone out there know SPIKEY who is breaking the 300 tdi disco in the FOR SALE bit, as i am waiting a reply about a post- guess i am just impatient!!
thanks
strapping young lad:
ive driven my escort when the exhaust fell off
loss of power and noisy as hell
think about it though
tractors only have one silencer
Disco Inferno:
my 200tdi disco runs without any silencers on a 3" straight through pipe
pass's mot's fine although it is loud, bizarely though the noise inside isn't that bad even with no interior, carpets or sound proofing. however before i turned it out the side the noise was unbearable as the rear silencer fell out obviously under the floor
Mine had a compunt bend behind the rear wheel so comes out where the rubbing strip was on the rear quarter.
it does turn heads especially round town. potentially the engine rev's a little mroe freely than before but its not one of the magical "20% increase in bhp guaranteed" mod's.
my bends were sourced through demon tweaks in wrexham and the centre box replacment pipe was made using an existign box, which was anchored to the bench before cutting. cut the box out, get a suiitable piece of pipe to fill in the gap and weld it back up.
