Exhaust Modification
strapping young lad:
ive seen a few discoveries with the rear silencer removed and repiped to the rear quarter panel (like defenders i suppose)
what is the advantage of doing this and also whats the legal implication (MOT for example)
thanks
dyf
Digsit:
Dont know about the legal implications but I can think of one immediate advantage.
Stops you reversing into a muddy bank and burying the tailpipe at speed causing the whole back section to fold thro 90 degrees and mash itself up into the wheel arch
One of the first expensive mistakes I made about three weeks after buying mine
My replacement is still in the usual position but I have to remember to THINK before I reverse :D
Porny:
I think this is something my brother want's to do on his Discovery in the near future.... just haven't got chance at the moment.
Did, however, remove the centre silencer on his 200Tdi and replaced it with a straight through piece of pipe.
Makes it go a bit better mid range, and sounds rather good!!! :D
When it comes to modifying the rear section, will need to put a smaller silencer tucked up somewhere, as although not 'too' loud, it would be a bit loud with any silencers!!!

Range Rover Blues:
The back box on our V8 doesn't do a lot, but it keeps the neighbouts happy.
TBH I got fed up with the noise from having a straight thro' pipe at the back so I fitted a s/h system. It had been issued with an MOT though.....
lee celtic:
I've seen the pipe exit through the side and was thinking of doing it using an exhaust outlet from a boat (like a slash cut with a stainless surround )and flexi exhaust pipe again from a boat yard . :D
:?: How much better is it with the middle box removed :?:
