--- Quote from: littlepow on April 16, 2008, 15:01:07 ---Not saying military resources are stretched, but bringing back a Vulcan is taking the mick!
It's a completed waste of money, the £7,000,000 could have been better spent.
--- End quote ---
The money to restore the Vulcan Bomber - something that we should be proud of as part of our military heritage - has come from the public. Less than half has come from the Lottery heritage fund.
What would you have spent the money on? I would rather see £2.3 million of Lottery money spent on something British than go to some Muslim group to build a mosque. (Isn't there a sense of irony in the fact that Muslims abhor gambling yet they still like to profit from the lottery).
Over to you

How about medical care for injured soldiers, food for the homeless or charities that are desperatley underfunded? Instead of some cold war relic.
--- Quote from: Lord Shagg-Pyle on April 16, 2008, 18:05:54 ---I stand to be corrected on this, but isn't the Vulcan to the Sky organisation a charity, with money donated by members of the Public and businesses? From what I recall, the MoD had nothing to do with at all.
--- End quote ---
Never said it did. MoD could afford to waste that much money, there streched to breaking point as it is.
Sorry to rant, but the way this country wastes money is appaling. It then has the audacity to complain about needing to raise even more for the basics it has promised the people that live within its care.

So its back in for modifications. More than 75% of the funds for the Vulcan have been public donations so I think that answers the question that people think its money well spent.
It may be an icon of times we'd rather forget but surely the same can be said about WW1 & 2 aircraft. I live fairly near to bruntingthorpe if I am about and free when I know its going up I'll go and take some pics

let me know i'll meet you there, im about 3 mile away. seen it the first flight but missed this one,,alan,,

No problem with having a rant. We all do it. As I mentioned earlier, the National Lottery could be divided a lot more fairly. It annoys me that charities have to go cap in hand to the Lottery for funding, but some drugged up ne'er do well can stick the contents of her unwashed bed in an art gallery and get a 'grant' for it!
Perhaps MPs should be made to pay bacxk all their 'expenses' into a worthwhile cause. Somehow I don't see that happening though.

Found this on a photography forum I frequent - I believe it was taken yesterday..............................................................

Littlepow, it may be a coldwar relic but it is part of our military history. I feel as you do that more should be done to help our Armed Forces that are injured during combat but that, I fear will take a change in Government to happen.
Charity, where does that begin? When you look at the amount of different charities in this country alone, you couldn't afford to give each of them a pound out of your monthly pay. So, which do you decide to give to? Do furry animals get precedence over children? The mixed up values in this country make me wonder.
In an ideal world we would look after our armed forces but that is not politically correct. We would look after those that cannot look after themselves but again that is not politically correct. The politician way is to listen to the so-called minority and translate that to a majority vote
