turbo whistles twice as loud

hi, whilst driving my turbo started to whistle twice as loud. it did'nt seem to affect the performance but just doesnt sound right. its a dicco 200 tdi in a defender. ive changed all pipes that relate to the turbo, ie; new allisport pipes, but it still sounds the same. i'd be greatful for any suggestions, thanks.

Could be the inlet/exhaust manifold gasket leaking. 


try carefully nipping up the nuts that hold it all onto the side of the cylinder head, but it could be that it's "blown through" and will need relpacing.


that or the turbo itseld is knackered. remove one of the pipes into it and grab hold of the impellor. it should only have a couple of millimeters free play. if it rattles like a rattly thing, then it's time for a new one.

They also whistle if the turbo boost gets turned up, or oddly when you clean them :-.

yeah in the past we have bought turbos for the nissans that feel in good nich and once you clean em all out and run some fresh oil through they are slack as awt, they get a manky gungey film in the bearing pack which seems to keep it functioning well lol.

They also sound really loud when you run a 19j turbo on a 200 tdi don't they tom  :lol: :lol: :lol:
