Rolling element bearings do not like excessively high speeds or rapid changes in speed. Nor are they big fans of large changes in temperature.
If roller bearings were better, do you not think they would be fitted in all turbos? the only advantge must be to reduce the drag of the oil film in a journal bearing.

hi, thanks to every one for your input, its all sorted now, the impellor was chewed up some how so i was lucky to have a second hand one, fitted it and alls well. cheers.
