The time has come
beast5680:
well i find myself in the situation where i must park up the disco for a bit :'( as the ever rising fuel prices mean that its just not viable for me to keep chucking fuel in to let SWMBO run round the town in it, so much to her disgust i have obtained a free vw polo..in gold  for her to use on the school run and to pop in and out of town during the week
Having just put diesel in down the road at £1.12ppl  it makes more sense to use something that will give me 40+miles to the gallon at least for the time being
anyone else contemplating this? I really dont want to stop using the landy and i,m not getting rid of it but fuel prices are just getting silly now and more gutting is a customer at work has just come back from venezuala where he was filling the hire car for £0.03ppl  yes you did read right 3p a litre for petrol
TDi90:
i do the same as you.
i have a little skoda fabia that does the motorway miles diesel, and does 55mpg, blinding little car and cheap as chips to run.

At the present moment in time, I'm giving serious consideration to going back to working on the streets, and before anybody puts a smuty comment, I mean going back on patrol. The money is better due to overtime, although it would mean night shifts again and dealing with, how can I put this, the more unintelligent members of the gene pool. A bit like shooting fish in a barrel. The nearest nick to me is 3 miles away, easily done on a pushbike, and the Disco could come out on high days and holidays.
I have to say, I feel very bitter about how we seem to be being held to ransom, but freedom of choice I suppose. We don't have to have big cars, but we also don't have to put up with this dictatorial bunch of schemers that are currently in power!

my girlfriend has the family car, a bora 2.0 litre sport, and ive got my disco as a toy and my work van a 2.5 transit, the cost of running all these is very high, i cant wait for the next petrol strike, it always seems to go under 95p then for a short time anyway. i cant belive the prices we have to pay, soon it will only be the rich who can afford to have cars,
crazymac:
I'm with your reasoning there, fortunately I don't need mine for work but the prices are crazy
What I've done is gone down the SVO route at a 50/50 mix, which saves a chunk, and seriously looking at near 100% SVO. I'm figuring on one of the Vow2 heaters which will allow me 90 to 95% oil so saving me about £45 every fill up!! no brainer in my book!
