I've had mine let go twice now and both times all the push-rods were spaghetti and the second time I snapped 2 rockers as well with one of them eating a valve stem top-cap during its death - not a massive bill and just a mornings work to put right.........

evil do you do what i do with stuburn crank bolts breaker bar against chassis turn key  [-X

extreme90:
get a set of 8 pushrods
timing belt kit
loctight
and your laughing
before you order though
remove the rocker cover and remove the rockers, clean and examin very closely for hairline cracks, they may seem fine, but ive found hairline cracks in nearly all the engines that ive got running again after a snapped belt

btw, i take it you definately no its the belt thats gone  :-., you got someone to crank it whilst looking through the oil fill to see if the rockers are moving

You don't need pullers...., if that's what your referring to....

Its a days work, if you have all the parts to hand.....

Remover rocker cover and rockers and check for damage. Remove all rocker caps and check for damage. Remove all push rods and check for damage.

Obtain parts, including new belt and tensioner.

For ease, you will have to remove viscous, loosen alternator, water pump, etc, as the 200tdi has a plate that covers everything.....

Remove crankshaft pulley (4 bolts). The hard part is undoing the actual crank bolt...., this has thread lock on it and is torqued to over 300 psi.

I had a special tool for this that evil has now got and I haven't got round to making any more yet, but I can hire out a 5000psi torque wrench that is 5' long...., that'll shift it.....

Trouble is it's heavy and long and postage could be a bitch....., but cheaper than doing in your knuckle's.....

Didnt budge it. Trust me, we tried. Took chris9119's tool, my breaker bar, 4 foot pf scaff on the breaker bar and me swinging on it to get it to let go.

Failed methods included what you said, same with rolling the car and dumping clutch, heat, cool, both....

Seriously though, was a nice easy job once thats out the way. Make a note of what bolts come from where though.
