rear prop rubber gater.... which way round?????

<< < (3/3)

Gav_T:
I fitted one of them today (in the mud, at tong just before i went off roading) as mine totally goosed. Tbh i didnt realise that there was a right and wrong way but its survived a days punishment and got me back from bradford! I too am doing the 200 tdi prop conversion but i want to know if i can use the diff flange off a 1990 defender d turbos diff because my mate is having the whole axle for his and said i can have his diff.

Mine is 1995 v8 btw.

Range Rover Blues:
It's just not designed to cope with a 6" lift, who knows how much stress it's under like that.  Time to swap for a wide-angle propshaft I reckon.

Dan's right it's going to be as easy to swap the whole diff for your spare front one.

Myself I always thought that the thicker part should be under compression, but I was told it didn't by Propshaft Technology.  If you put the bolts through the rubber in the direction of the arrow then it will only fit one way round, takes a moment to get your head round it but it works, honest :-k

Guardian.:
THATS A Total waste of time changing if you havea 6" lift it wil constantly rip them its just not designed for anything like that, they are fine with a 2" lift, but beyond that is taking the pee a bit.
is the lift just on the springs or is that with a body lift as well?

Budgie:
I've had the dough nut on my +3" Disco for about 4 years now without changing it, still fine.  :P

One thing that may help is the cranked trailing arms that Scorpion sell, you can pack these out with washers at the chassis mounting to bring the nose of the diff more in line when you have a lift fitted. Although I don't think that would cope with +6".

The problem I had when I tried to change to the double U/J rear prop on mine was that it caused a vibration at the rear, and I didn't have any packing washers for the trailing arms, so I just went back to the original prop and I never got round to changing it again.

4 landies:
I went through 3 donuts in a month until I bought a genuine landrover one with the arrows on. The parts guy told me the correct way to fit it and its been on for 4 months now and no signs of wear at all and its got a 4" lift on the suspension.
