the price of gordon browns fuel
Range Rover Blues:
That's a good point, like many things on which the Gov'ts performance is measured the way in which inflation is done has been chaged, like you say more games boys and chavtastic tat and less real things like food and houses.

The old saying of "Charity begins at home" is quite relevant when you look at how much the UK gives in foreign aid etc.
The UK is the second biggest contributer in the world and from what I read even gives more then the whole of the US !
Japan is accepting that it cann't afford to give as much and publically announced it will be cutting what it gives - at same time the UK announced it's increasing it's amount
On the recent trip to India Mr Brown announced £825 million is going to be given to help Indian education when the UK schools are stuggling for funds.

Where do you think all this overseas aid that is given away by the governement, without the UK public have any say, comes from ?
I'm not saying we shouldn't help others - but not to the detriment of ourselves.
If we are suffering due to higher prices then that should mean we (as a country) cann't give as much to others - not more !

We need to figure out a country that the UK is dishing out money to, that also has a massive transfer of population to the UK...... It'll be a lovely country to live in
The only tax that we have that is still on par with other countries is VAT. In fact we still have one of the lowest rates in europe. But that's where it ends.... everything else is taxed beyond belief.
If you take a potato as an example..... there is tax on the price of the seed, the equipment to plant it and the fuel for that equipment. The farmer is then taxed on his earnings for selling the potato. Then we pay tax indirectly for the transport of it in fuel, vehicle purchase, etc. We are even indirectly paying for the tax the truck driver has to pay on his salary! Then we pay tax on the salary we earn to pay for it, the fuel we use to get it and even the bag we buy to carry it! Then we pay more tax on the energy we use to cook it, the pot we cook it in and the water supply to boil it in!
Maybe an extreme and inaccurate example, but you get my drift

I'm just going through my book for the last 2 years. This time last year DERV was 89.9 p/l and it stayed at around that level most of the summer, certainly 'till the holidays. So what's gone on in the last 3 months?

Did you notice how it hung about at just under the £ for ages? Then once it broke that barrier it has rocketed up to £1.10? Of course, the next barrier is £2.
