Rev Counter fluctuating

MMmmm, mine was doing it for ages then I re-soldered the connector on the W terminal wire and all was fine for a while.  Then the alt dies on me and I replace it with a pattern part - now the tacho is all over the place.  So, I've re-done the wire again and had the dash to bits to look for bad joints all to no avail.

Must be inside the alt I reckon..........

Cant be arsed to strip that so I'm 'living with it' for now..........
