I agree with GreenI, its sad news but you have to be mad to cycle on the A1.
I too ran a bike shop many years ago in Stamford Lincs and found some, not all but some cyclists were their own worst enemy. Comments like I should be allowed to ride on any road we want annoyed me, because they can except motorways. But you are likely to get fetched up on an A road than a lane.

You know, were a little like that.... "its a green lane and I'll drive it" but cycling on an "A" road like that..... I feel for the family, I feel more so for the van driver (subject to circumstance) and I feel glad that no one other than the idiot on the bike was injured or killed! he could have instigated a much worse accident with far wider reaching consiquences.
