Cyclist killed on A1

We passed a chap riding a pushbike down the A1 on Saturday,we commented at the time that he must have been bonkers,i heard today that after getting to Grantham and returning on the North bound he was knocked off and killed sometime between 3pm and 4pm.

The family and I came back from Lincoln to Grantham, via the A1 on Saturday, we saw a police car and a white Transit which was facing the other way on the Northbound carriageway at Balderton near Newark.

Everynight at the Foston/A1 junction see some cyclists heading southbound to Grantham, its bad enough in a car let alone on a bike, poor bloke.

Working in the Cycle trade I hear about a lot of incidents like this..
As much as it saddens me, you would have to be really stupid to ride on most 'A' roads..
There are 2 main 'A' roads around Stoke on Trent, the A500 and the A50, all cyclists I have seen on these roads have ended up dead.

I have been a cyclist all my life, I have raced BMX, Cycle Speedway, road and mountain bikes, I eat, sleep, breathe and live cycling.....
I know I don't know all the details of this horrific incident, but I have an idea who to feel sorry for :cry:

I could tell you a thousand stories of incidents with traffic, even this evening coming home from work, I nearly got burgered on a VERY quiet estate, and I have a £500 front light, that was burning the drivers retinas !!!!
If you get the chance and it's safe, tell these people to find another route, before it's too late....

It was the Transit van that hit him,a waste of life for what i consider a foolish act.
