200TDi exhaust question
Evilgoat:
--- Quote from: "defuzz" ---i thought it might be an olive but none were provided with either piece and none of the diagrams I've seen have used one.
Just been to halfords and they have rubber "silencer rings", do you think this is desigend to go in the exhaust or is it not an internal part do you think?

It'll melt and turn to goo.
You are looking for a steel 'doughnut' that fits in there. Local Kwik Fit will have em.
defuzz:
turn to goo? cool, that should seal the two pipes together!!!!
I'll drop into kwik fit and take a look.
hobbit:
They should be flush fitting, not extras, just line up loosely bolt together, hang on the mounts, line up and tighten evenly
Check that the cup ends are not dented
Exhaust cement wont last long on these type of fittings, they are really for inserted fittings
defuzz:
maybe I just need to spend a bit more time trying to get it right!!
the exhaust cement bodge is intended to make it sealed for the MOT and then sort it properly later!!!
Wolfie:
Looking at the diagram you have posted above, the joints look as if they are thetype that should have olives. Do both pipes flare out at the end? If so I'd say that you do need one.
The other thing to consider is, have you been supplied the right pipes. There seem to be several different exhaust systems for 200tdi discos looking at paddocks site. Might be worth checking that the two pipes are compatible.
