V8 to diesel
Evilgoat:
Well before you do. I've had comments from several people about the punishment the Suzuki will take, normally along the lines of 'Is that a Deisel?'
In the case of the Suzuki it was a case of being methodical about it. High tem greast on the plug lead ends, same again on the coil lead too. Coil gained a boot from a BMW coil (again greased) and the LT system cleaned and all gaskets greased on the connectors. Same on the Dizzy gasket and the breather for the dizzy cap extended.
burgerman:
I can understand your frustration, but stick with the V8 if ya can, obviiously not sure exactly what you have tried so far, but petrol/V8 engines can be quite good in water, I simply put a marigold ( or similar) glove over the coil and sealed both ends, also a very thin layer of silicon grease around the sealing part of the dizzy cap, Also i strongly recomend good quality ht leads cap ect, not sure about ya rough running problem but im sure someone will come along shortly to assist,
Keep the V8 dream alive
Must admit i have been tempted to stick a diesel in mine, but as i dont use it every day i worked out the cost of the work against the amount of fuel i could buy with the same money, Also sound great and lovely to drive,
Not knocking diesels just horses for courses
Range Rover Blues:
Your best bet will be to buy an MOT failure or crash damaged TDi then.
Rad is different
engine mounts are different
gearbox is different
props might both be different because of the gearbox )not sure but mine don't fit Tim's)
Exhaust obviously
On the 300TDi the gearbox crossmember
the wiring loom (glowplugs etc etc) especially if you want A/C
disco-v8:
ok been doing alittle thinking about this conversion and what differencies are there between my V8 auto and the 300TDI auto????
all i can think of is that there exsactly the same box as they are both zh4 hp22 so the only differerence i can think of is that the bell housing is different, so wont it be easyer just to change the bell housing over????
or is there more to it
Staffy:
Nooooooooo, ya can't do that.
If you want to bring it down we can have a look and bounch some ideas around about water proofing it. Mine so far (touch wood) has been ok. In the floods etc we had water over the bonnet a couple of times in Astbury.
I have a 3.9 here which runs fine and I am breaking soon, so you are welcome to switch some bits over to find out what the idling problem is then at least you will know what you need to get to put it right. I around most days as I work from home so just let me know.
Water proofing is going to be a process of elimination and could take a while to get it completely right I would have thought. A lot of people on here have done pretty much what a diesel can do in water with their V8's.
It of course is up to you but a bit drastic that and I am pretty sure you'll miss that rumble :)
Cheers
Phil
