V8 to diesel

If you want to bring it down we can have a look and bounch some ideas around about water proofing it. Mine so far (touch wood) has been ok. In the floods etc we had water over the bonnet a couple of times in Astbury.

I have a 3.9 here which runs fine and I am breaking soon, so you are welcome to switch some bits over to find out what the idling problem is then at least you will know what you need to get to put it right. I around most days as I work from home so just let me know.

Water proofing is going to be a process of elimination and could take a while to get it completely right I would have thought. A lot of people on here have done pretty much what a diesel can do in water with their V8's.
It of course is up to you but a bit drastic that and I am pretty sure you'll miss that rumble :)

sorry phil but looks like ill still be going down the derv route.... i love the engine dont get me wrong but too many little niggly things have pushed me away from it

1 fuel cost 5.2 MPG on a fun day just wears thin after a while
2 i hate trying to sort out electrics
3 cooling issues
4 so hard to keep it water proof
5 idling problems

ok 1 or 2 of these problems where ok to live with but they r all an issue now and i just give up, id prefer a cheap running derv :?

not even the lovley rumble will pull me out of this one....

if you wanna try and have a look at it its all urs untill the end of the month then its off the road due to the lack of road tax, i work nites so am free untill 4pm every day

Easier in the long run to buy another one. Not worth the hassle to swap it over.

sorry would have to totaly disagree with you on that one

if i bought another disco i would have to repair weld and fix everything that i have had to do with mine, ive got that much off road gear on mine that it would take agies to swop it all over not much of mine is left in standard form, and i know every little bit of mine to every nut and bolt....

plus who else has got 5mm box section rock sliders replacing there origanal sills, i dont fancy doing that job again!!!!

also i love landrover dont want to scrap one just for the engine...

is it the time of year or something, everybody seem very negative!!!!

Xtremeteam:

--- Quote from: "disco-v8" ---ok been doing alittle thinking about this conversion and what differencies are there between my V8 auto and the 300TDI auto????

all i can think of is that there exsactly the same box as they are both zh4 hp22 so the only differerence i can think of is that the bell housing is different, so wont it be easyer just to change the bell housing over????

or is there more to it

valve block is different along with the change points

Thrasher:
Not negative, just realistic. For the price of an engine you can buy another D1. Then you can slowly migrate all the bits over etc .

The other choice is a lot of engine work, it will most likely have to be inspected by engineers afterwards so you can insure it (age of the vehicle - it's not like it's a series motor...), and lots of other fun pitfalls.

Oh and a non-EDC 300tdi Auto ..... ick. Not a good combination. I'd go manual if I was retro-fitting a tractor engine ;-)
