So how easy is it to.........
carbore:
Hello,
I am nearly summoning up the courage to give it a go but a few good sources of info are.
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/
A site not unlike this, but for welding people, reviews, tutorials and forums.
The "A 4x4 is born video" has a good section on welding (and is a bloody great DVD anyway!, buy it)
Some welding shops have demo videos and tutorials, I got one free form the nice chap at my local BOC outlet)
If its Chassis stuff (like I need on my S3) then you need a BIG welder likley over 200amps and skill to do it. I think ill get that done by a pro at a garrage with hi spec kit.
Bulkhead should be easier, but you need a welder that goes LOW enough so it wont bow a hole through it (suy 30amps or less)
Avoid NO GAS stuff as it give a rubbish finish and is allegedly toxic!
but www.mig-welding.co.uk is the palce to start.
good luck!

A friend did some welding for me without a mask and ended up with very sun burnt eye lids, needless to say he'll never do it again.

I have a very low rated no gas mig welder and a borrowed gas mig welder (thanks Jeff) which is superb, but having seen a stick arc welder in action... I may get one

 sorry guys but I meant it as in don't look at the weld at all with or without a mask just concentrate on the sound
